Using the Equation Editor
You can use the Equation Editor in WebCT to create, view and save
complex equations. It is made up of two parts - the
Editor, where equations are created graphically,
and the Viewer, which allows the equation to be
displayed in any browser.

Overview
The Equation Editor is based on the idea of an equation
template. There are templates for superscripts, matrices,
and so on. To build an equation, you insert templates,
and then fill in the blanks in the template.
The tools which use the Equation Editor are:

To open the Equation Editor from supported tools,
- Click on the Equation editor button, which
appears below the text input area in a compose
or edit function.

The Equation Editor Interface
Macintosh Interface
The Macinosh interface, as pictured below, is made
up of Template Icons, basic Editing
Tools, a link to the Symbols Palette and
the Editing Area Starting Point.
Equations are created in the Editing Area and when
complete, the equation is given a Title and
the Submit button
is clicked.

When the Submit button has been clicked, the Equation
Viewer will open so you can preview and
edit your equation.

Once your equation is complete, click the Insert button.
The equation will be automatically inserted into
the WebCT tool which you are using.
PC Interface
The PC interface includes the Equation Editor and
the Equation Viewer in a single screen. The PC interface
allows you to create an equation and use editing
tools such as Font size and Increase
editor size.

Once your equation is complete, click
the Insert button. The equation
will be automatically inserted into the WebCT tool
which you are using.

WebEQ Browser Controls
To enhance the speed of the Equation Editor, you
are encouraged to download the WebEQ
Browser Controls and install this program on
your computer. While WebCT is not dependent on
this software, having it installed will increase
the speed at which an equation can be created.
To download the WebEQ Browser Controls:
- Go to the WebCT @ Murdoch Resources Page.
- Follow the link to download the WebEQ Browser
Controls.
- The link will take you to the WebEQ homepage.
When asked,
- Type your email address
into the textbox provided.
- Click the Continue button.
- From the Browser Controls Installation
web page,
- Click Begin Installation.
You will now be able to download and install the
WebEQ Browser Controls on your computer.
