Logging into WebCT

To Log in to WebCT, you are prompted to enter your WebCT ID and password.

You use your Murdoch Username (for students it is your Student Number) and your Murdoch Password. Remember that logging into WebCT is case-sensitive. The initial Murdoch Password sent to you in the mail must be typed exactly as it is printed as it is case-sensitive.

Your Murdoch Username and Murdoch Password will give access to most of the University Systems.

Changing your Password

Use the Murdoch Password Change (Students) facility to change your password. The new password will be synchronised between systems and services.

Help

Don't be worried if your first attempts result in an "Authorisation Failed" message. If you get an error message, then try the following:

  1. Try again to make sure you made no typing mistakes. Remember that logging in to WebCT is case-sensitive. The initial Murdoch Password sent to you in the mail has to be typed as shown.
  2. Check that your Murdoch Username and Murdoch Password are correct.

You can test whether your Murdoch Password is correct here. This does not log you in anywhere, but just checks whether your details are in the password database. If this test fails, it means that your enrolment information has not yet been processed. If you enrolled late, or have changed your enrolment, it may take a day or two for your enrolment details to filter through to WebCT. Try again tomorrow. If this persists, contact your Divisional Office.
  3. Try to Log in to WebCT again

Test your username and password again by going to WebCT @ Murdoch.

If this fails, your enrolment details may not have filtered through to the WebCT system. If you have made a late enrolment change, it may take several days for the change to filter through to WebCT. Please be patient and keep trying.
  4. Contact your Unit Coordinator

If you are still unable to log in to your unit, please contact your unit coordinator who will check if your name is in the WebCT student database. If there is a problem, your unit coordinator will contact the WebCT team for further assistance. It is important to contact your unit coordinator if you are having ongoing problems accessing your online unit.
  5. Contact Service Desk

You can make contact with the Service Desk in the Library. The helpdesk is just on the right as you enter the Library. Advice is available by phone on 9360 2000 or by email to ITservicedesk@murdoch.edu.au.

You should contact the helpdesk if you encounter an unexpected failure of a username and password, which you have used successfully on a previous occasion.

Care of your Password

Successful first time login to your unit's WebCT pages isn't all! Here is important further advice:

  • You are responsible for sensible and prudent protection of the secrecy of your password for your WebCT unit access. Never allow another person to obtain or use your password.
  • If you have reasonable grounds for suspecting that theft of your password has occurred, change it. You can change it on the Murdoch Password Change (Students) facility and the changed password is available immediately for use with WebCT.
  • If you suspect malicious misuse of your password has occurred and resulted in damage to your WebCT files, contact your Unit Coordinator as soon as possible, and change the password to prevent further damage.
