Help Guide to Using the Murdoch WebCT Template Once you have successfully logged on you will see the Unit Homepage, which is the starting point for students. You can modify the Template Homepage by adding, deleting or hiding tools.
The Unit Information item links to a WebCT Content Module. A Content Module lists links to a number of documents. The information pages in the Unit Information section are some files which you can modify and one University guideline documents (Assessment Policy):
These pages provide suggested headings as well as generic information and university guidelines. Use the headings relevant to your unit and insert your own content. To modify any of these Template documents, please read the section on Edit the Murdoch Template in working with Content Module Pages.
The Study Topics item is also a WebCT Content Module. It has been left blank for you to enter your unit topics and files of content. Click on the Designer Options then use the 'Table of Contents' in the Designer Menu to add topic headings and files.
The Study Schedule item opens an overview of the unit in a new browser window. It contains columns to organise your Topics and Resources and to list assessments. You can edit the Study Schedule by going to Manage Files, then to the unit_information directory in your My-Files area and selecting schedule.htm.
The Lecture Materials link opens a new browser window to display a chart of multimedia unit materials. These can include PowerPoint slides, lecture notes in RTF (Rich Text Format) or PDF (Portable Document Format). You can add your lecture materials by going to Manage Files and editing the lectmat.htm file in your My-Files directory.
The Help item links to a single HTML page that opens in a new browser window. It contains links to helpful WebCT and Murdoch University information for students. If you would like to add some of your own links, you can modify the help.htm page through Manage Files, to My-Files and then select help.htm.
The Online Resources item links to a single page where you can list online resources that are external to your unit, such as a link to the ABC website. You can edit the Online Resources page by selecting Designer Options when viewing the page and then adding a URL using the Add Page or Tool feature.
The Discussion item links to the WebCT Discussion tool. The Discussions can be used as the main form of group communication in the unit and is an effective way for students to participate in class discussions outside regular lecture times. The Calendar item links to the WebCT Calendar tool. This tool allows you, as the designer, to enter scheduled public or private events that can be viewed by students in the unit. You can also add links to the calendar days so that students can click on the link to other parts of the WebCT unit, or to external web sites. The Calendar tool can be customised to allow students to add private calendar entries also.
Thi ECMS link goes t othe Library Catalogue Home Page. Students can then locate materials for the unit. The URL can be altered to enable students to go directly to the unit's materials. The URL format is: http://propero.murdoch.edu.au/search/r?SEARCH=...999 (where xxx999 = unit code eg ict108)
This link needs to be released when students are to complete an online survey on MOSS.
The iLecture link needs to be released when your lectures are being recorded on the iLecture system and you want to provide student access to the streamed records. A separate window opens and the student can select the iLecture to listen to.
The Student View item links to a single HTML page that lets you see how the unit looks to a student. The Student View page opens in a new browser window. The Student View item links to a single HTML document which contains details of how you can login as a student to see functions such as quiz grade release and content module changes.
The Designer Help item links to an HTML page that opens in a new browser window. It contains helpful information specific to designing and developing your WebCT unit.
Visit the Public Unit Welcome Page Unit Welcome Pages are created for all Murdoch University units and provide quick links to a range of generic and University wide information that you might previously have provided in your Unit Information and Learning Guide.
