Quiz Text File

Instead of creating individual questions in WebCT, you can set up multiple questions in a text file and import the file into a quiz.

The Quiz Text File is designed to assist you in creating multiple quiz questions. You will need to add the Quiz/Survey Tool to your WebCT unit and create a new quiz, before setting up the Quiz Text File.

Download the Quiz Text File

The Quiz Text File must adhere to a predefined format such as:

You can download and edit the Quiz Text File, or create a new file based on the above format.

Download
quiz_text.txt

Click the link then save the file as quiz_text.txt

Edit the Quiz Text File

Once you have downloaded the Quiz Text File,

  • Open quiz_text.txt using your text editing software. Suitable software includes Notepad or Microsoft Word
  • Edit the file to include your own Quiz questions.

Specific help on editing each Question type is available. Multiple Choice, Paragraph, Short Answer and Matching Question formats can be included in the Quiz Text File. Calculated Questions need to be created in WebCT's Quiz/Survey Tool. You must be careful not to introduce extra spaces and observe case sensitivity of the field name in the format of the file.

You must also be aware that Murdoch Policy does not allow negative marks (e.g. -200) to be assigned to assessable questions.

When you have added all the questions to your file,

  • Save the file in .txt or Text Only format
  • Proceed to upload the file into WebCT
