Saving and Submitting an Equation

The process of saving and submitting an equation is different between a Macintosh computer and a Windows PC.

Saving on a Macintosh

To save and submit:

  • In the Title textbox, Type in a name for your equation (e.g. eqn_1)
Follow Unix naming conventions and use lower case letters and underscores instead of spaces
  • Click Submit

You can now preview your equation.

If your equation includes several layers, you may find that the preview box is too small to display the equation correctly. Increase the Height and Width of the equation display by increasing the numbers in the relevant textbox. The preview screen also allows you to edit the Font Size (also Larger and Smaller) and Export MathML.

Edit Equation Again will open the editor again and allows you to edit your equation.

Once you have finished editing your equation,

  • Click the Insert button.

The Equation will now be inserted into the WebCT Tool area.

Saving on a Windows PC

The Equation Editor on a Windows PC does not display a preview screen. Functions to adjust the size of fonts and of the equation are built into the Editor, as illustrated below.

Font Size allows you to increase or decrease the font size to display the equation.

Resize Editor (Larger/Smaller) allows you to make the equation display larger or smaller to suit the size of the equation.

To save and insert on a PC:

  • In the Title textbox, Type in a name for your equation (e.g. eqn_1)
Follow Unix naming conventions and uselower case letters and underscores instead of spaces
  • Click the Insert button.

The Equation will now be directly inserted into the WebCT Tool area.
