Creating an Equation
Select the Equation
Editor control panel below the textbox (in the supported WebCT Tool) in which
you want to insert an equation.
Opening the Equation Editor
To open the Equation Editor, in any supported WebCT tool,

- From the pull-down menu, select Create
Equation
- Click the Equation Editor button.

The Equation Editor will open in a new browser window.
Occasionally, the composition window may not display the full
screen. You will need to scroll the page down to access the Equation Editor
button.
Adding a Template
To add a template to your equation:
- Click on the template icon you require (e.g. Fraction)
The icon will automatically insert into your equation, as below.

Adding Alphanumeric Characters to the
Template
- Using your keyboard, type in
an alphanumeric character and press the enter or
return key. You may also use the symbols
palette to insert a symbol into the template.
- Repeat the steps needed to add
templates and add
alphanumeric characters until you have completed your equation.
NOTE: Do not insert spaces between templates
using your keyboard spacebar.
Layering Templates
Templates can be layered within one another, allowing you to
add an additional element to your template, eg. add superscript text to a
fraction element.
 |

You can now add alphanumeric characters or symbols to your template.
|
Navigating the Templates
Equations can contain Templates, Nested Templates and Layers.
Using the arrows on your computer's keyboard, you can easily navigate between
each
part of the equation.
 |
The red highlight indicates the start of the equation.
|
 |
Having used the Forward arrow key on your keyboard
to move forward two steps, you are now at the end of the equation.
|
 |
By using the Up key once, you are able to navigate
to the top layer of the equation.
|
 |
Using the Forward key, you can select between each
nested template.
|
 |
Having moved forward to a selected spot, you can now nest a new template
into the equation.
|
 |
In this example, the new template is Superscript.
|
A light coloured border indicates which particular template
is active, eg. the Superscript added to the nested template, as enlarged below.
