The Equation Editor Interface

The Equation Editor is based on an equation template. There are templates for superscripts and matrices. To build an equation, you insert a template, and then fill in the blanks in the template. The Macintosh and PC interfaces are different from one another.

Macintosh Interface

The Macintosh interface, as pictured below, contains a set of Template Icons, basic Editing Tools, a link to the Symbols Palette and the Editing Area Starting Point.

An equation is made in the Equation Editing Area and when complete, enter a Title and click Submit.

A second interface known as the Equation Viewer screen is used to preview the display of the Equation and to edit the Font Size, Title and display Height and Width. You can also choose to Edit Equation Again.

Once the equation is complete, click the Insert button. The equation will be automatically inserted into the WebCT tool which you are using (e.g. into a Discussions message).

PC Interface

In the PC interface, the Equation Editing Area and Preview Screen are combined in one interface, as shown below. The PC interface allows you to specify a Title for the equation, edit the Font Size, access Template Icons, and basic Editing Functions, open the Symbols Palette and compose an equation in the Editing Area.

Once the equation is complete, click the Insert button. The equation will be automatically inserted into the WebCT tool which you are using (e.g. into a Discussions message).
