Equation Editor

The WebCT Equation Editor enables users to create and save complex equations, which can be incorporated into one of the supporting WebCT Tools. The template-based editor is used to create and save equations for use on the web, without needing to know complex math markup language.

Both staff (designers, graders/markers) and students can access the Equation Editor from the Manage Files area, if you choose to Edit a file.

In the following WebCT Tools the functions which use the Editor are:

WebCT Tool Designers and Markers Students
Discussions Compose discussion message, reply, quote and reply privately.

Compose discussion message, reply, quote and reply privately.
Mail Forward, compose new message, reply and quote. Forward, compose new message, reply and quote.
Quizzes and Surveys Quiz and Survey Questions:
multiple choice, matching, short answer, calculated* and paragraph.
 In an answer.
Content Module Pages Into pages of content and Annotations.
 In an Annotation (My Notes)

* WebCT will not calculate an equation.

WebEQ Browser Controls

To enhance the speed of the Equation Editor, staff and students are encouraged to download the WebEQ Browser Controls and install this program on their computer. While WebCT is not dependent on this software, having it installed will increate the speed at which templates and symbols are added to the editing area and alphanumeric characters are added to a template.

To download the WebEQ Browser Controls:

  • Go to the WebCT @ Murdoch Resources Page
  • Follow the link to download the WebEQ Browser Controls
    • You will go to the WebEQ homepage.
    • Type your email address into the textbox provided
    • Click the Continue button
    • From the Browser Controls Installation web page
    • Click Begin Installation.

You will now be able to download and install the WebEQ Browser Controls on your computer.
