Backup your WebCT Unit

WebCT allows you to make a backup of your entire WebCT unit and download this backup file for storage on your own computer. Follow the instructions below:

From your unit Home Page:

• Click on the Manage course link.

• Under the Backup Course menu, click on the Create Backup link.
• Enter a description for your backup file. NB. WebCT will give the file a name based on the date and time. The description serves more as a reminder for yourself.

• Click the Create button.

WebCT will begin making the backup file and will display the progress of this operation:

When WebCT has finished creating the backup, you will see a success message. Click the Continue button to see a display of the backup files for your unit.

NOTE: A limit of 4 backups is kept for each course. However, you can download these backups to your own computer if you would prefer to store them there. The files are in Unix Zip format so cannot be opened by your PC or Macintosh computer. When you need to restore a WebCT unit using one of your backups, it is a simple process of uploading the backup file and restoring it using WebCT. Backups should not be restored into active courses. Downloading a backup file to your computer for storage

• Click Backup Course from Manage Course menu
• Select the backup file to be downloaded from the Backup Filename Table.
• Click Download from Options: Backup Files.
• Your computer's download window appears. Follow the on-screen instructions.
